KidSpace: Wednesday Breakouts

KidSpace is getting ready to investigate. Each Wednesday evening in January, kids will uncover amazing discoveries with the BIS: Bible Investigation Squad. They will be exploring the awesome power of God’s Word and what it will do for them. Don’t miss it! KidSpace is for children in kindergarten through 6th grade.

All-Church Prayer

Everyone is invited to All-Church this Friday, January 20, from 8 to 10 pm, in the sanctuary. Prayer is come-and-go. Additional All-Church prayer dates are January 27 and February 3.

[re]GENERATION: Youth Ministry

[re]GENERATION is meeting at Mel’s Diner in Georgetown for an exciting evening of bowling on Friday, January 20, from 7 to 9:30 pm. Bring $15 to $20 per person for bowling, shoe rental, and food. A minimum number of participants is needed for a group rate. Contact Ruth Snodgrass by Wednesday, January 18, if attending and for more details.

Kitchen and Lost & Found

Recently several items have been left behind, and many dishes have found their way into our church kitchen. Please check the lost and found (located in the storage room in the gym) and the kitchen island for items that have been left behind belonging to you or someone you may know. Unclaimed items will be sold, donated to charity, or thrown away by Monday, January 16.

I want to encourage each of you to maintain your spiritual disciplines during our Month of Devotion. We have set aside this time for prayer and fasting. It is a time for us to focus individually and collectively as we prepare to move forward into what God has for us.

Here are a few points of interest:

January 21 & 28 will be packing and moving days. If you are available, please check with one of our ministry directors to see how you can help. Otherwise, men can check with Jerry Noble.
Beginning February 1 we will only have use of the sanctuary in our current facility while we complete our new building. During this time there will not be Sunday school. We will have Sunday morning worship at 11:00. Sunday and Wednesday evenings will continue as scheduled.
We will have revival services with Doug Klinedinst February 5, 8, 10 & 12.
2011 contribution statements will be mailed out this week. If you are claiming charitable contributions as a deduction on your taxes, you must receive this statement before you file your tax return.
I will be sending a letter this week with additional information.
Effective February 1, our offices will be located at 13717 Burnet Rd. # 230, Austin, TX 78729 (behind our new building, next to Pizza Hut at Wells Branch Parkway and Mopac).

In Remembrance of Him . . .

"And Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.' In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you'" (Luke 22:19-20).

On Sunday, January 29, during our evening service, New Life we be focusing on Christ's sacrifice for us as we celebrate communion.

Communion is a profound experience of remembering what Jesus did for us on the Cross and of communing with Him and receiving a special touch of His grace and presence through partaking of the bread and cup.

Communion is always a beautiful experience for the church. Don’t miss it!

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God" (Matthew 4.4)

Jesus taught that mere food can’t sustain our lives, but we must also feed on the words of God. Not many of us get so busy or involved with other things that we suddenly remember, “Hey, I forgot to eat today!” But if we're not careful, we can easily get so distracted in our daily lives that we neglect one thing that is essential for our spiritual lives and growth: reading and meditating on God’s Word, the Bible.

In 2012 we’re going to focus on making Bible reading a priority in our lives. Here are some resources to help us do that:

B.R.E.A.D. Bible reading charts. B.R.E.A.D (Bible Reading Enriches Any Day) charts are Bible-reading guides that list specific readings for each day. If you follow the chart, at the end of the year you will have read the entire Bible. The 2012 charts are available in the foyer. The charts are free, so pick one up!

B.R.E.A.D. in your inbox. Prefer to read online? You can sign up to have the daily readings emailed to you. Sign up at here. It’s free, so sign up!

B.R.E.A.D. Sticks. Don’t like to read? Or just prefer to listen? Get a B.R.E.A.D. Stick and listen to the Bible in audio format. For only $24.95 you’ll get a USB thumb drive with all the readings. Listen on your computer or MP3 player. Order one by calling 866.819.7667.

The B.R.E.A.D. resources are great, but of course there are other helpful resources that you might want to consider.

bible.is app. This free app for iPhone, iPad, and Android allows you to listen or read the text or do both at the same time. It has reading plans to guide you in your reading of the Bible and gives you the ability to highlight and take notes on your reading.
YouVersion.com. This website is a great free resource for reading or listening to the Bible online and on your mobile phone. There are dozens of translations available and over 20 reading plans to choose from. There is also a nice tracking feature that will help you stay up with your reading.

One-Year Bibles. There are several special editions of the Bible called daily Bibles or one-year Bibles. What makes these editions unique is the reader-friendly layout: the entire Bible is laid out in 365 consecutive readings that generally include a selection from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and often Proverbs.

Here's a link to other versions of one-year Bibles. Besides the NKJV, some other good translations are the English Standard Version (ESV), New International Version (NIV), King James Version (KJV), and New American Standard Bible (NASB).

Audio Bibles. In addition to the B.R.E.A.D. Stick and the apps mentioned above, there are many other good audio versions of the Bible available.

Probably the most well known audio Bible is Alexander Scourby's reading of the KJV.

For a popular dramatized version of the NIV, try this one.

Perhaps the most well known narrator of the Bible today is Max Mclean. He has narrated several translations of the Bible. All are available through his website. One nice thing about his site is that there are sample readings available so you can check out his reading style to see if you like it.
